The National-level Management on Coastal Resources Work Committee held its 6th meeting yesterday to discuss conservation of natural resources and ecosystem along the Myanmar coastal areas.


Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Ohn Win presided over the meeting that discussed the committee’s focus on the situation of natural resources along the coastal areas, crucial role for the socio-economic and national economy of the country and the integrated coastal management.


The coordination team of Forest Department is drafting the Integrated Coastal Management Programme with the technical advice of International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in collaboration with the sub-national level committees and local organizations to ensure harmonious management of the social, economic and environmental conservation and promoting cooperation in the effective management of sustainable development works.


The Union Minister discussed conservation of the marine ecosystem, quoting the 2011 report of Norwegian Institute for Water Research, due to disposal of waste materials, chemicals from agriculture and fish farming and plastic materials.


He also said that the government is implementing the development of management on coastal resources in accordance with the goals of Myanmar Sustainable Development Plan.


The respective committee members also presented their works before the meeting is concluded.
