Union Minister for Transport and Communications U Than Sin Maung attended the 19th ASEAN Telecommunications and Information Technology Ministers Meeting and Related Meetings (TELMIN) in Vientiane, the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, on 24 and 25 October.

At the meetings, the ministers discussed cross-pillar coordination in digital ecosystem, development of digital economy, digital transformation, smart city, digital innovation, capacity building programs in ICTs, and establishment of the Coordinating Committee on Cybersecurity which shall comprise of representatives from relevant sectoral bodies to strengthen coordination efforts on cybersecurity policy in ASEAN.

They also exchanged views on ICT developments and changing technologies in ASEAN, reviewed the completion of works in 2019, approved the future plans, discussed cooperation with dialogue partners China, Japan and Korea, and agreed on future plans between the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
The prizes were given to the award-winners for ASEAN ICT Award 2019 and the Vientiane Declaration on Smart Connectivity for ASEAN Digital Transformation was adopted.

Union Minister U Thant Sin Maung, together with other ASEAN ministers, also called on Deputy Prime Minister Mr Sonexay Siphandone, and attended the 5 G Trial Launching ceremony.
