Union Minister for Investments and Foreign Economic Relations U Thaung Tun and Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism U Ohn Maung attended a meeting on sustainable tourism industry in Taninthayi Region.
 

The meeting held at the Sapphire Hall of Hotels and Tourism Ministry in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday was also attended by Taninthayi Region Chief Minister U Myint Maung, Deputy Minister for Hotels and Tourism U Tin Latt and officials. At the meeting, Union Minister U Ohn Maung said as there are many pleasant islands off the coast of Taninthayi Region, and that the investors of tourism industry are to avoid possible damages of these natural resources. He also called for promoting traditional cultures of local Salon people in the area.


Union Minister U Thaung Tun also discussed conservation of natural heritages such as coral reefs, biodiversity and marine lives, together with socially responsible investing based on desire, knowledge and skills not to damage the environment.


He also advised to develop master plans for the trips to islands and for Myeik Archipelago, with reviewing the existing development projects.


The Chief Minister of Taninthayi Region briefed on development programmes in the region and employments for local people and pearl-breeding projects.


The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Conservation explained the works of their ministry.


The meeting also discussed construction of only one hotel on each island and systematic conservation plans for the tourism industry of the region.—MNA
