The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) on Wednesday said that it killed Islamic State (IS) militants near the southern Libyan city of Murzuq, in coordination with the UN-backed government.

"In coordination with the Libyan Government of National Accord, U.S. Africa Command conducted an airstrike targeting IS-Libya militants in the vicinity of Murzuq on Sept. 24," AFRICOM said in a statement.

The statement estimated that 11 militants were killed in the airstrike, causing no civilian casualties.

A few days ago, AFRICOM said that it launched an airstrike near Murzuq that killed eights IS militants.

In December 2018, AFRICOM launched an airstrike that killed 11 al-Qaida members and destroyed three vehicles in southwestern Libya.
