ON the fullmoon of Tazaungmon, Palin Kanthaya Elephant Camp was alive with visitors from various parts of the country who provided feed to the elephants in the elephant camp, according to U Myo Min Ko, assistant manager of the elephant camp.
The Palin Kanthaya Elephant Camp, located near the west Palin village beside the Myingyan-Pakkoku road in NyaungU Township, was opened by the Myanmar Timber Enterprise of the Ministry of Natural Resource and Environmental Conservation. It aims to include people in the elephant conservation activities, develop an income-generating green business for State by opening elephant camps and provide the public with a closer look at the elephants as well as for recreation purposes.
Yesterday morning, visitors provided watermelons, cucumbers, sugarcanes, coconuts, corns, pumpkins and bananas to the elephants as a donation on the occasion of the fullmoon day of Tazaungmon. In addition, visitors made a tour to the Elephant Museum and enjoyed taking photos with elephants.
There are a total of seven elephants in the Palin Kanthaya Elephant Camp. Elephant lovers are encouraged to buy a buffet for the food for elephants, which costs between K30,000 and K50,000. For those who want to donate one meal a day, they can donate up to K100,000. — Ye Win Naing (NyaungU)/ GNLM
