The installation of Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) in offshore fishing vessels was started on 14 December and a total of 34 offshore fishing vessels have been equipped with vessel monitoring system until now. 

In Haigyigyun, there are 86 offshore fishing vessels and 82 vessels signed an agreement with King Royal Technologies Co.Ltd to install VMS. 30 vessels out of which have been equipped with the system. Other four offshore fishing vessels which signed an agreement with Glowing Success Co.Ltd to install VMS have been equipped with the system, according to the Haigyigyun Department of Fisheries. 

The 52 remaining vessels will be equipped with the system not later the 31 January 2020. The value of a machine will cost USD 1,000 and charge for the use of satellite is USD 39 per month. Arrangements are being made to pay for the value of a machine and one-year charge for use of satellite in four-time installments . As soon as the system is installed the vessel owners have to pay first-time installment and the remaining amount will be paid one time in three months, according to a responsible person from King Royal Technologies Co.Ltd.

In addition, arrangements are being made to open control center at the Department of Fisheries in Ayeyawady Region for monitoring the fisheries upon installation. The staff who will serve at the center will be given training course and the offshore fishing vessels in Haigyigyun will be inspected with VMS at the end of January, 2020.
