Kyaukme 3 April

Participants of the Peace Bike Tour arrived in Kyaukme Township, Northern Shan State on 2 April evening.

They were warmly welcomed by Pyithu Hluttaw legislator U Sai Tun Aung, Lawmaker for Shan State parliament U Sai Tun Win, representatives from Shan Nationalities League for Democracy (SNLD), members of local Shan literature and cultural organizations, and social organizations at a toll gate belonging to Oriental Company.

The volunteer riders initiated a campaign named “Peace Bike Tour” as a peace activity with the aim of ending the civil war, halting clashes between the Tatmadaw and ethnic armed groups, and drawing a greater participation of public in the peace-making process.

The bikers kicked off the tour from Yangon and rode over 1,500 miles by passing Nay Pyi Taw, Loikaw, Hopong, Taunggyi, Mongshu, Lashio, Kyaukme, Nangkhio, PyinOoLwin and Mandalay, said U Aung Kyaw Moe, an organizer from Taunggyi.—Kyaukme IPRD
