VICE President U Henry Van Thio attended a ceremony to donate cash for rehabilitation of the flood-hit areas by business persons in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.

 

At the ceremony held at the Presidential Palace, the vice president, who is also the Chairman of the National Disaster Management Committee, accepted K50 million donated by members of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

 

On behalf of flood victims and the National Disaster Management Committee, the Committee’s Chairman Vice President U Henry Van Thio expressed thanks to the donors for their contributions to the rehabilitation of the flood-hit areas.

 

Speaking at the event, Vice President U Henry Van Thio said the world was experiencing climate change induced natural disasters. Likewise, Myanmar was also experiencing floods.

 

He expressed his appreciation to the donors saying that their contribution to the flood victims reflected the fact that Myanmar was the most generous country in the world.

 

At the ceremony, U Ye Min Aung, the vice-president of Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry- UMFCCI, explained about the purpose of the donation. Afterwards, Vice President U Henry Van Thio accepted the cash donation presented by UMFCCI President U Zaw Min Win and members and presented a certificate of honour to them.

 

The Vice President then handed over K 1.5 million donated by Shine Hill Co, Ltd to the National Disaster Management Committee (NDMC) Vice Chairman Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Win Myat Aye.

 

Also present at the ceremony were Union Minister Dr Win Myat Aye, Deputy Ministers U Soe Aung and U Hla Maw Oo, Permanent Secretaries, UMFCCI’s President, vice-presidents, members and officials.—MNA (Translated by Kyaw Zin Tun)
