Vice President U Henry Van Thio, in his capacity as the Chairman of National Disaster Management Committee, inspected damages to embankments near Shwe Gae wastewater treatment facility, the Strand Road and rescue camps in Amarapura Township, Mandalay Region, yesterday.


Union Ministers and Deputy Chairmen of the management committee Lt-Gen Soe Htut and Dr Win Myat Aye, members of the committee U Thant Sin Maung, Deputy Ministers U Hla Kyaw and U Soe Aung and officials heard reports on the situations of damages, the flood of Ayeyawady river water and urgent renovation works.


Vice President U Henry Van Thio gave necessary instructions on providing assistance for renovation works.


The Vice President and party also witnessed the damages of Shwe Gae wastewater treatment facility, the Strand Road and rescue camps where the flood victims are temporarily accommodated. During his meeting with the people, the Vice President remarked that environmental degradation cannot be avoided, and more challenges are expected in the following years.


The Vice President encouraged people not to feel upset about it, but to take care of health at the rescue camps and offered to keep providing assistance to the flood victims. The Vice President, the Union Ministers and the Deputy Ministers then provided relief assistance to the evacuated families.


In the afternoon, they inspected renovation works on the damages which forced the residents in Yin Taw village-tract, Hmantan Ward, Kyantan Ward, Zegyo Ward and Ngaltai Ward to leave their homes.
