Well wishers donated the lab equipment to National-Level Central Committee on Prevention, Control and Treatment of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) at the Ministry of Health and Sports in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday. National Director of Kinnected Myanmar Dr Naw Jar explained the steps taken to purchase and import lab equipment for the Public Health Laboratory departments in Mandalay, Mawlamyine, Taunggyi and Lashio. U Kyaw Kyaw Win, Chairman of Mandalay Urban Development Funding Committee, and Daw Nway Nway Hlaing, Director of Wai Aung Kabar Jewellery Co Ltd representing the company chairman, explained the reasons for the donation.


Union Minister Dr Myint Htwe, in his capacity as Secretary(2) of the central committee, said the laboratory equipment will help not only COVID-19 patients but those with other diseases in the long run as well. The Union Minister said this upgrade to sub-national laboratories will speed up the identifying process for COVID-19 and greatly benefit prevention and control of the disease. He said the participation of civil society organizations, philanthropic groups, and members of the public continues to play an essential role. The Union Minister then accepted the donations and returned certificates of honour to the donours. Mandalay Urban Development Funding Committee donated two sets of lab equipment worth K809.2 million to the National Health Laboratory Department in Yangon and the Public Health Laboratory department in Mandalay.


The Wai Aung Kabar Jewellery Co Ltd donated three sets of lab equipment worth K924.2 million to these departments in Mawlamyine, Taunggyi and Lashio.
