IN honour of World Engineering Day, celebrated annually on 4 March, Myanmar held the World Engineering Day 2026 ceremony on 7 March at the Chatrium Hotel in Yangon.

The World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) brings together engineering associations from more than 100 countries, and the Myanmar Engineering Council and the Federation of Myanmar Engineering Societies also participate as members.

“Myanmar’s participation in the World Federation of Engineering Organizations has enabled us to contribute to the advancement of Myanmar’s engineers, the development of engineering education in Myanmar, and other scientific and technological progress. All engineers have a responsibility to protect the people living on Earth and to work toward a sustainable world,” said U Thein Zaw, Chairman of the High-Rise and Public Building Project Committee (HPBC).

At the World Engineering Day 2026 ceremony, Dr Seng Chuan Tan, President of the WFEO, and Dr Marlene Kanga, former President of WFEO, delivered opening remarks via video clips, while the President of the Myanmar Engineering Council and the Vice-President of the Federation of Myanmar Engineering Societies also delivered congratulatory remarks.

At the ceremony, a video recording of the World Engineering Day 2026 event and the activities of the Myanmar Engineering Council was shown, and certificates of appreciation were presented to donors, including an earthquake assessment team, HPBC, Shwe Thanlwin Group, Sae Paing Development Limited, and Chindwin College. — ASH/TH
