A ceremony to observe World Sight Day was held at Hay Man OO hall in the town of Loinlin in kayah state this morning.
The ceremony was jointly organized by Loinlin district Public Health Department, the Fred Hollows Foundation and Namkhon Shan ethnic philanthropic association.
Dr. Zaya, medical superintendent of Loinlin District People Hospital opened the ceremony with a brief speech. Then, Dr. Sai Myat Thura from Pinlon Station Hospital shared health knowledge to the attendees, saying that it is sorrowfully known that about 70 percent of the blind people in Myanmar had lost their eyesight due to eye diseases that can be preventable or cured in advance. He also explained the root causes leading to blindness, advising local behavioral ways to be conducted in order not to contract eye diseases from others.
Then, the organizers gave eye checkups and provided them with glasses.
