Yangon cyclists hail Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary

To mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Indian Embassy and the Myanmar Cycling Federation jointly organized a ‘Cycling for Peace’ event at 6 a.m. yesterday at the Kandawgyi Park in Yangon. 


More than 1,000 amateur cyclists took part in the event, which was also attended by Deputy Minister for Health and Sports Dr Mya Lay Sein, Deputy Speaker of the Yangon Region government U Lin Naing Myint, Yangon Region Minister for Social Affairs U Naing Ngan Lin, Dawbon Township constituency Hluttaw representative U Thant Sin, officials from the Ministry of Health and Sports, Indian Ambassador to Myanmar Shri Saurabh Kumar, and concerned officials, Myanmar Cycling Federation chair, and executive members.  


Shri Saurabh Kumar and Deputy Minister Dr. Mya Lay Sein made the opening remarks at the event. Then, officials opened the event by releasing balloons, and participants took two rounds of the Kandawgyi Park on their bicycles. —Myint Maung (Translated by Ei Myat Mon)
