Yangon, 24 December 

With the permission of Yangon Region Government, Myanmar Christian Churches collectively launched the opening ceremony of the 3rd Yangon City Christmas Festival-2019 at Trinity Cathedral on Bogyoke Aung San road in Pabedan Township at 6:00 pm on 23 December.

First, Yangon Region Chief Minister Phyo Min Thein, Yangon Region Hluttaw Vice-Chairman U Lin Naing Myint, Yangon Mayor Maung Maung Soe and pastors from Christian Churches cut a ceremonial ribbon to formally open the festival. 

Then, CM Phyo Min Thein made an opening speech and Yangon Mayor Maung Maung Soe spoke words of greetings on the occasion of the birth of Jesus Christ. Afterwards, the attendees sang hymns.

 This year’s Christmas Festivals were simultaneously held at the car park in front of Mahabandoola park near Immanuel Church and in Sawbwagyi Gone Park in Insein township, Yangon. On the eve of Christmas festival, Churches in Yangon, Yangon City Hall and Mahabandoola park were beautifully decorated with colourful lights.

 During the three-day Christmas festival period, from December 23 to 25, delicious foods will be served and merry Christmas songs, Hawaii dances, Christmas dances and the performances of famous singers will be staged free of charge from 6 pm to 12 pm.
