The Department of Agriculture tar­gets to grow 17,640 acres of edible oil crops, mostly the sunflower in the com­ing FY in Yangon Region.

 

The cultivation of sunflowers will cover half of the estimated areas and will be grown in Taikkyi, Hlegu and Kungyangon townships, according to the Yangon Region Department of Ag­riculture.

 

In the 2023-2024 sunflower culti­vation season, it is estimated to grow 17,640 acres of edible oil crops with 8,969 acres of sunflower in Yangon Region.

 

There will be 2,414 acres of sun­flower in Taikkyi, 854 acres in Hlegu and 834 acres in Kungyangon.

 

The winter beans and pulses and edible oil crops are planted in October and November depending on the mon­soon period, and it takes the plants about three months to grow.

 

Moreover, the chief minister of Yan­gon Region handed over the sesame, black-eyed peas, cowpeas, false roselle and other profitable seeds to the farm­ers on 14 November. — TWA/KTZH
