THE Week 10 match between Yangon United, the defending champions of the Myanmar National League, and Sagaing United ended in a 1-1 draw yes-terday at the Yangon United Sports Complex in Yangon.
Although Yangon United dominated the first half, the visiting team managed to end the half with a lead of one goal. Friday scored the first goal for Sagaing United.
Yangon United missed a goal chance in the early min-utes of the first half, when Mg Mg Lwin failed to convert from a cross over from Yangon’s youth star Nyein Chan Aung.
Sagaing United scored the icebreaker at 24 minutes. The goal was scored by Friday after the referee awarded a foul ball in 18 yards.
The first half ended with Sagaing United leading by 1-0.
In the second half, Yangon United played better with perfect ball passes and neat deliveries.
But the team had to play with 10 players in the later min-utes after Sylla received a direct red card for misbehavior.
Yangon gained a penalty shoot at 78 minutes on account of rough play by Sagaing defend-ers in the penalty area.
But, Mg Mg Lwin failed to convert the penalty as the Sagaing United keeper palmed away the ball.
Yangon United managed to score the equalizer at the 79th minute with a beautiful shot by Mg Mg Lwin. Both teams were low on energy in the final min-utes of the match, and no more goals were scored till the final whistle. The match ended in a 1-1 draw.
Yangon United has so far earned 20 points from 6 wins, 2 draws, and 2 losses from 10 matches played and is placed second in the table. Yangon will next play against Shan United on 11 May.—Lynn Thit (Tgi)
