Kalay, 10 July

A power plant that generates electricity from Yarzagyo Dam which is located in northern part of Kalay Township, Sagaing Region embarked on distribution of electricity to the National Grid starting on 9 July, said an official of the dam.

“We have made arrangements to irrigate water and generate electricity despite water level of the dam was low. We attempted to open the grounded channels by using different ways. We are distributing water to farmlands through two channels. We supplied electricity to the National Grid as of 9 July,” U Myo Tun, Staff Officer said.

Yarzagyo Dam with 52,000 acre feet of water storage capacity was inundated with silt and wood after it breached in July 2015. So water storage capacity of the dam was low when compared to previous time.—Shin Nay Min (Gangaw)
