The Yangon City Development Committee will not order to shut its markets in the city amid concerns over Covid-19 pandemic.
“We will not close the markets until any specific instruction comes out to do so,” said U Thant Zin Tun, the Deputy Director of Markets Department at YCDC.
The department measured body temperatures of people, managed hand sanitizing at the 48 markets and conducted awareness programmes to prevent spreads of viral disease at meat markets, including live poultry market.
U Thant Zin Tun added, “We have placed hand sanitizers for the hosts and shoppers at these market, while taking their body temperatures and erecting health education posters there.”
The YCDC is making plans to expand its awareness programmes to cover all of its 184 markets in the city.—Min Thit (MNA) (Translated by Aung Khin)
