A total of 214 acres of vegetable have been earmarked to grow in Yenangyaung Township of Magway Region during this year’s winter crops growing season, and as of 23 December, 229 acres of vegetable crops have been already grown and, overtaking the planting target, according to the statistics released by the Township Agriculture Department.

Winter vegetable crops are being mainly grown in the Township, using underground water to increase food security and income of farmers in the Township.

Farmers in Yenangyaung Township are growing vegetable crops such as calabash, cucumber, tomato, eggplant, water spinach, coriander, salad, bean varieties, oilseed crops, onion and chili as winter crops.—San Nyunt (Yenangyaung)
