Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn attended the opening ceremony of the 2023 World Internet Conference WIC (Wuzhen Summit), held at the Wuzhen Convention Centre in China yesterday.

 

Chinese President Xi Jin­ping addressed the opening cer­emony via video and the summit was attended by over 1,000 par­ticipants from more than 100 countries.

 

During the plenary session, the Union minister said the sum­mit is held with the theme of “Creating an Inclusive and Re­silient Digital World Beneficial to All - Building a Community with a Shared Future in Cyber­space” featuring various events along with 20 sub-forums.

 

He added that while cre­ating a resilient digital world beneficial to all, it will include various functions and there might be many requirements in making prosperity and pro­gress for humanity. It should guarantee the access to digital world for all, create technology that is convenient for disabled people, and improve the digital literacy

 

Moreover, it should prior­itize cyber security measures to prevent digital threats. It also needs to establish a firm digital infrastructure that is resilient to cyberattacks and natural dis­asters.

 

He also highlighted the need to develop technologies to support environmental con­servation, and energy-saving hardware and to promote the awareness to dispose of the e-waste systematically, protect the data of each country and promote the responsible use of data.

 

The Wuzhen Summit is the 10th-anniversary annual meeting of WIC and has been held in the ancient town of Wuzhen in east China’s Zhejiang Province since 2014. — MNA/KTZH
