HUAWEI donated over K16 million worth medical supplies to Mandalay regional government to assist in the fight against COVID-19, according to an announcement released by Huawei on 7 October.

 

The company also donated over K4 million worth 8,000 three-layer masks and 120 bottles of hand gel to the Mandalay regional government in May for the first time. Additionally, Huawei donated over K12 million worth protection equipment such as 5,000 three-layer masks and 1,000 N95 masks in the outbreak of COVID-19 second wave.

 

Through this donation, Huawei Myanmar holds a chance to support the front-liners and the volunteers from the hospitals across the region.

 

“Prevention is better than cure. We hope this will partly help to handle the issue of COVID-19 second wave in Myanmar and to reduce the infection rate among the local community. Through our donation, we want to assist the relieve programs of Mandalay Regional Government to focus more on recovery procedures and rebuild Mandalay back into the normal,” said Mr Ding Zhaoyi, CEO of Huawei Myanmar.

 

The COVID-19 second wave started in Myanmar in early August of 2020, and, Mandalay is one of the most affected areas. The state and regional governments have tightened the restrictions on townships which are included in the stay home plan to control the spread of COVID-19.

 

During the pandemic period, Huawei has donated over K130 million worth PPE suits, AI technology support, safety goggles, hand sanitizers, three-layer masks and N95 masks to COVID-19 Prevention Central Committee, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nay Pyi Taw Council, Yangon regional government, Kayah regional government and other departments.
