AUTHORITIES recently destroyed about 12 acres of opium fields in two villages of Kalaw Township, Taunggyi District in southern Shan State.

A combined team of police wiped out 10.5 acres of opium fields in a valley on the west of Kyauksoap Village of Nannaing Village-tract in Kalaw Township on 5 December.

The authorities also destroyed 1.5 acres of opium fields on the south-west of Myaungchauk Village of Taunggwe Village-tract on 27 November.

Police are working on the opium destruction which is part of the government’s efforts to stem opium production in the country.
