Pathein, December 9
A fuel storage facility and about 40 barrels of gasoline were destroyed by a fuel storage fire in Pathein, capital city of Ayeyawady Region.
The fire erupted at a fuel storage tank belonging to a man named U Kyaw Kyaw Oo aka U Arr Zan in Ward-13 from Pathein at about 5:30 p.m. on December 8. The fire is believed to have started while gasolines were being transferred to barrels from an oil tanker.
The fire was brought under control by firefighters, policemen, security personnel, members of local social organizations and residents with the use of 15 fire engines and water tankers at 6:40 p.m. and was completed put out 30 minutes later. A fuel storage facility and 40 barrels of fuel were burnt to ashes by the blaze.
An estimated loss of property due to the fire is about Ks. 9.4 million. The house owner has been charged with fire negligence by the local police station.
