The police destroyed 40 acres of poppy plantations in Pekon Township in Southern Shan State on 8 December.


An anti-drug squad from Taunggyi Police station annihilated 40 acres of poppy fields about two miles east of Lwehe Village in Pekon Township in southern Shan State.


Authorities destroyed 636.5 acres of poppy plantations in Pekon Township in this year, according to the township police force.


The Myanmar Police Force has been stepping up campaigns to destroy poppy cultivation throughout the country in cooperation with people, local authorities and civil society organizations.
