President U Win Myint delivered a speech at the virtual event to mark the International Anti-Corruption Day 2020 yesterday morning.
The event was joined by Pyidaungsu Hluttaw and Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker U T Khun Myat, Union Chief Justice U Htun Htun Oo, the Auditor-General of the Union, chief ministers of region/state governments, deputy ministers who are the steering committee members for drafting National-Level Strategy on Anti-Corruption, Deputy Attorney-General and departmental officials, the chairman of UMFCCI, and the members of supporting group for drafting the strategy, officials from UNDP, UNODC and USAID.

U San Win, the Acting-Chairman of Anti-Corruption Commission, explained the 85 per cent accomplishment of the Anti-Corruption Strategy Plan (2018-2021) in the past three years, signing of Myanmar in the International Anti-Corruption Academy in late 2019 and signing of MoU with the Anti-Corruption Academy India.
Myanmar launched a pilot project to form anti-corruption groups at the 14 Union Ministries in 2018, and it has been expanded to 36 groups at the 22 Union Ministries and organizations.
Myanmar ranked first among 17 Asian countries in the Global Corruption Barometer Asia 2020 released in November. This year’s International Anti-Corruption Day theme is ‘Recover with Integrity’.
The Acting-Chairman of ACC urged all the officials, people and stakeholders in various sectors to join hands with the commission to overcome all the challenges of Myanmar in economic and social sectors by promoting integrity in implementing the COVID-19 Economic Relief Plan of the country.
The message of UN Secretary-General to the occasion was read by UN Resident Coordinator to Myanmar Mr Ola Almgren, followed by an explanation of UNDP Deputy Resident Representative Ms Dawn Del Rio about activities against corruption and the video message of UNODC Executive Director by UNODC Country Manager Mr Benedikt Hofmann.
The event was concluded by screening a video of the International Anti-Corruption Day 2020.
