Union Minister for Labour, Immigration and Population U Thein Swe received Resident Representative of UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) Ms Hai Kyung Jun and Deputy Resident Representative Ms Yukiko Iriyama yesterday.


The meeting discussed the 27 years of bilateral cooperation between the ministry and UNHCR, plans carried out for the repatriation of displaced persons from Rakhine State between 1993 and 1997, MoU with Bangladesh for displaced persons returned of their own volition, the formation of Central Committee for the Implementation of Peace and Development in Rakhine State led by State Counsellor, MoU between the ministry and UNDP/UNHCR for the returnees in June 2018, Exchange of Letters, extension of MoU, formation of Joint Working Group (JWG), cooperation works with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to inspect the data of displaced persons sent by Bangladesh, 75 Quick Impact Projects (QIPs), supports of UNHCR to relocate the people from Kachin IDPs and Thailand in addition to Rakhine State issue.


The leaders also exchanged views on the programmes in MoU, the current situation of Myanmar and further close cooperation.
