The Eurocham Myanmar, the International Labour Organization and the Organization For Economic Cooperation and Development virtually co-chaired the Agrobusiness Forum 2020 yesterday.
The forum was attended by Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr Aung Thu, Director-General for Planning Department U Kyaw Swe Linn, EU Ambassador to Myanmar Ranieri Sabatucci and other representatives of partner organizations.
During the event, Union Minister Dr Aung Thu discussed the COVID-19 impacts on the agricultural sector, activities to bring the practices into conformity with ASEAN standards like GAP, GAQP, GAHP and GMP, effective economic responses and the cash-for-work project to provide farmers under CERP of the government. The Union Minister also highlighted the rural development programmes via the agricultural development, food security, land-ownership issue and better farming system.
EU Ambassador Mr Ranieri Sabatucci discussed plans to improve the business and investment sectors of Myanmar, cooperation work to produce quality and safe agricultural products and to penetrate the international markets, honey export to EU and opportunities for Myanmar’s farming products and foodstuffs in EU markets.
Director-General U Kyaw Swe Linn briefed the challenges, reforms and efforts of the ministry in the agribusiness sector under the topic “Taking Stock of 2020 to Unlock Myanmar’s Potential” during Plenary Session. The forum was also attended by the Hluttaw Representatives, officials of Eurocham Myanmar, OECD, ILO and civilian organizations. –MNA (Translated by Khine Thazin Han)
