NO highway bus lines are suspended, and about 20 bus lines are providing service with 30 express buses per day, said joint secretary U Hla Aung of Yangon Region Transport Authority (YRTA). 

“YRTA has not banned any passenger bus line service until today, including Aungmingala Highway, Dagon Ayar Highway and Dala Highway lines. Some highway bus lines are transporting passengers with health certificates and goods,” he affirmed. 

Despite the non-stop running of the highway bus lines, the passengers barely take the highway service for now as the prevention and control measures of the COVID-19 vary in each region and state, he continued. 

“The highway bus lines rarely see passengers during the meantime because of the strict security measure and health regulations. The passengers require to present the official documents from the related institutions and must comply with the coronavirus health instructions of the Ministry of Health and Sports and regulations issued by the regional government,” elaborated the YRTA joint secretary. 

Last 20 December 2020, 23 highway bus lines plied from nine regions and states to 14 cities with 31 buses. Twenty bus lines provided transportation service with 27 buses to 14 cities as well on 21 December. Also, 33 buses of 21 highway bus lines left for 16 cities on 22 December, YRTA stated. 

More than 400 express bus lines typically provide transport service from Yangon-based highway terminals (Dagon Ayar, Aungmingala and Dala) to the 14 regions and states. The express lines halted their service starting from August, and some are turning to freight transport mode.
