39 news coronavirus cases were confirmed in Magway Region on Thursday, bringing the total number of confirmed covid-19 cases in the region to 2,359, according to figure released by the Department of Public Health.

There are still people in the region who are free of the virus and are in good health and have been discharged from the hospital. The confirmed virus patients on December 22 were from Taungdwingyi, Myothit, Myaing, Aunglan, and Magway Townships.

A contact tracing process is being conducted to expose people who had close contact with the coronavirus patients. Most of the virus patients are returnees, the truck drivers and their assistants, said Dr Khin Maung Than, assistant director of the region's Department of Public Health.

Magway Region recorded 2,357 confirmed coronavirus cases, with five deaths.
