There are very few people in the country who are well aware of the Consumer Protection Law (CPL) and consumer rights, said Myanmar Consumer Protection Commission-MCPC Chair Union Commerce Minister U Aung Naing Oo at the meeting of MCPC 1/2023 on 1 March.

“In particular, consumers have the rights to explain, complain and remedy their losses under the CPR and consumer rights provided by the law, and people rarely know about it,” the Union minister added.

In carrying out consumer protection activities, consumer complaint and redress process, market surveillance procedures and procedures for recalling and banning harmful goods or services from the market have been published.

The Union minister directed all those concerned to carry out innovative and wide-ranging programmes that can be of interest to consumers in the regions and states, as per the theme of World Consumer Rights Day which falls on 15 March 2023 “Clean Energy Transitions”. — TWA/CT
