Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister for Health Dr Thet Khaing Win attended the opening ceremony of the Sev­enth China-ASEAN Summit for Drug Development and Cooperation in Fanchenggang, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the People’s Republic of China yesterday.

 

Speaking at the event, the Union minister said the Chi­na-ASEAN Summits for Drug Development and Cooperation plays a key role in promoting the cooperation for medical de­velopment. This year’s theme is “Conveying the Voice of Tra­ditional Chinese Medicine to the World, ushering in a new future for traditional medi­cines”.

 

He added that the summit will focus on quality assurance, assessment, capacity building and strategic related matters and exchange the policy and regulations for traditional medicines. International co­operation is key to overcoming the challenges in traditional medicine sectors.

 

He then highlighted the systematic duties of the Food and Drug Administration (My­anmar) that assure the quality and safety of traditional med­icines, medical-related ma­terials, health supplements, foodstuffs, public health and registration of food and med­icines.

 

Then, the heads of China and ASEAN traditional med­icine sources coordinated the discussion and Dr Su Su Dwe, Director-General of the Traditional Medicine Depart­ment of the Ministry of Health presented the progress in the traditional medicine sector of Myanmar, its policies, research and Withama traditional med­icine for COVID-19 treatment.

 

At noon, the Myanmar del­egation attended the opening ceremony of the China-ASEAN drug control officials training course, a discussion on policy for traditional drug develop­ment and China-ASEAN medi­cine production and export-re­lated events. — MNA/KTZH
