Field Training Exercise of the ADMM Plus Ex­perts’ Working Group on Counter-Terrorism (EWG on CT), co-chaired by Myan­mar and Russia, was held at Sergeevsky Training Ground in Primorsky Krai, Vladivostok, Far Eastern Federal District, Russia, from 26 to 29 Septem­ber.

 

Myanmar military person­nel who participated in the ex­ercise arrived at Vladivostok International Airport of the Russian Federation on the evening of 22 September and then the representative mili­tary personnel from Myanmar and Russian Armed Forces conducted preparatory meas­ures for Field Training Exer­cise from 23 to 25.

 

On 26 September, a military parade to mark the opening cer­emony of the Field Training Ex­ercise was held at Sergeevsky Training Ground. Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy, Air) General Maung Maung Aye at­tended the event, along with of­ficers and other ranks who par­ticipated in the exercise, senior military officers and members from ASEAN member states and partner countries, includ­ing Brunei, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malay­sia, the Philippines, Russia, Thailand, and Viet Nam.

 

The Chief of the Russian Pacific Naval Fleet Admiral Viktor Nikolayevich Liina de­livered the opening speech, the flag marking the exercise was hoisted, and the military parade continued as per the agenda.

 

In the afternoon, the par­ticipants prepared for the exer­cise at the temporary Training Camp of the Far Eastern Feder­al University (FEFU) as per the training programme. Before the exercise, the Co-Chairs: Lt- Gen Htein Win, Chief of Armed Forces Training from Myanmar and Vice-Admiral Berezovsky Denis Valentinovich from Rus­sia delivered opening speeches, and the exercise was contin­ued.

 

The training was conduct­ed in two parts: training with commanding units and practi­cal training by field units. From 27 to 28 September, the training with commanding units took place at the Far Eastern Fed­eral University. Led by repre­sentatives from Myanmar and Russia, the participants dis­cussed the operation plan draft­ed during the Table Top Exer­cise hosted in Myanmar while operational and tactical groups sought approval for the training arrangements, and drafted the first phase of counter-terrorism operations.

 

As the second part of the training, the participants from the ASEAN member states and partner countries conducted the preparatory measures for the practical training by field units from 23 to 28 September. On the morning of 29 Septem­ber, the troops from various countries in the field training exercise successfully per­formed the practical exercise to conduct an operation drill and combat the area controlled by terrorists with the supporting fire of relevant military corps.

 

During the training pe­riod, delegates from various countries visited the promi­nent places such as the Anna Shchetinina woman hero stat­ue, Glavnaya Ploshchad square, Pacific Navy Fleet museum, the submarine museum, the ma­rine museum and the Russian historical museum.

 

Led by the Co-chairs from Myanmar and Russia of the ADMM Plus Experts’ Working Group on Counter-Terrorism, the Table Top Exercise was successfully organized in Nay Pyi Taw of Myanmar from 2 to 4 August and the Field Train­ing Exercise in Vladivostok of Russia from 26 to 29 September aiming to combat terrorists and terrorism based on mutual un­derstanding and belief, friend­ships among ASEAN member states and partner countries.
