A total of 31,473 acres of oilseed crops have been allocated to plant in PaukKaung Township, Pyay District of Bago Region this winter’s oilseed crops growing season, according to the Township Agriculture Department.
Local farmers in Paukkaung Township are mainly engaged in agricultural business. In this year’s oilseed crops growing season, local farmers have earmarked to grow a total of 27,633 acres of oilseed crops including 4,454 acres of sesame, 5,719 acres of ground nut, 350 acres of sunflower, 12840 acres of black gram, 10,967 acres of green gram and 6,143 of mung bean in the entire Township. In addition, some acres of cotton and vegetables are also designated to grow in the Township.
In order to achieve high yield, officials from the Township Department of Agriculture is making field trips and providing farmers with agricultural techniques such as good quality seeds, systematic ways of planting and prevention of pest infestation.—Than Tun Aung(IPRD)
