THE first kidney transplant op­eration was performed at Nay Pyi Taw General Hospital (1,000- bed) on 11 December.

 

Union Minister for Health Dr Thet Khaing Win comforted the patient and donor yesterday morning.

 

The patient was from Pyin­mana township, and his father donated a kidney for him. The kidney recipient and donor were in good condition and under medical care at the intensive care unit.

 

The kidney transplant op­erations are conducted every month at Yangon Sepciality Hos­pital (500-bed), and the Ministry of Health arranges to perform the operations at Nay Pyi Taw General Hospital (1,000-bed) normally.

 

The completed renal trans­plant operation was performed by seven teams—urine and kid­ney operation team, urine and kidney treatment team, heart and coronary artery operation team, anaesthetic team, diag­nostic team, blood and blood supplies team, and X-ray team, consisting of medics and nurs­es from Nay Pyi Taw General Hospital (1,000-bed), Yangon Speciality Hospital (500-bed), No 2 Defence Services Gener­al Hospital (1,000-bed), Yangon and Mandalay General Hospi­tals. — MNA/KTZH
