UNION Minister for Health, Professor Dr Thet Khaing Win, visited the Universities’ Hospi­tal (Yangon) on 14 December to inspect the opening of the Den­tal Department, which is now available for faculty members, students, and the public.

 

The Union Minister also observed the fitting of dentures for 29 elderly individuals, 15 re­tired university teachers from various universities, and staff family members, totalling 44. These individuals were invited by the Yangon Region Maternal and Child Welfare Supervisory Committee.

 

The Union Minister toured the eye surgery ward, where 15 cataract patients underwent surgery as part of the commu­nity-based primary eye health care programme. Together with Daw Maw Maw Than, the patron of the Yangon Region Maternal and Child Welfare Supervisory Committee, Chairperson Daw Nu Nu Swe, and other committee members, the Union minister provided eyeglasses and nutri­tious food to the patients after their surgeries.

 

The Union Minister next vis­ited the outpatient department, laboratory, operating theatre, medical ward, and specialist outpatient department of the Universities’ Hospital (Yangon), where they made recommenda­tions for improvements.

 

At the new Yangon General Hospital, he inspected the lay­out of the rooms in the newly constructed four-story medical wards within the hospital com­pound. He also discussed allot­ments of each room in the new building in detail.

 

The four-story reinforced concrete building measuring 182 feet by 64 feet was constructed by the Building Task Force 1 of the Buildings Department under the Ministry of Construction. It was built at a total cost of K 2.116 billion, funded by the Ministry of Health. — MNA/TKO
