MYANMAR generated US$256.6 million from 240,000 metric tonnes of various fish exports in the past eight months of the current financial year 2024-2025 beginning 1 April, according to the Fisheries Department.

 

The figures indicated a sharp increase of over $39 mil­lion compared with that of the corresponding period last year.

 

Myanmar steadily exports seafood to 40 countries includ­ing China, Thailand, Bangladesh and Japan through maritime and border trade routes.

 

According to the Myanmar Fisheries Federation, Myan­mar’s seafood exports include hilsa, rohu, catfish, seabass, river catfish, eel, shrimp and crabs. There are over 140 fishery product processing factories in Myanmar. The Department of Fisheries grants licence exten­sions every year. — NN/KK
