FACULTY members and stu­dents from National University of Arts and Culture (Yangon) made an excursion to observe pottery industries and later­ite cultural works in Twantay Township of Yangon Region on 4 January.

 

A 69-member team com­prising 25 teachers, adminis­trative and research officials and 44 students from the Painting and Cultural Heritage Management departments, led by Rector Dr Kathy Htwe ob­served production process of pottery industry in Twantay Township.

 

Students asked about pro­duction process of pots and recorded the practical works whereas officials explained procedures of making pots.

 

Their observation aims to ease the process of putting the pottery industry of Myanmar on the cultural heritage list.

 

Those teachers and stu­dents also observed and con­ducted research on laterite cultural works at Maungtee Pagoda built of laterite which is an ancient pagoda decorat­ed with the Mon architectural works in Twantay Township of Yangon Region.

 

The trip is intended to pre­serve the traditional crafts­manship of the Myanmar people, to practically teach production process of pottery industry and ancient laterite works to students and younger generations about tangible and intangible cultural heritage as a listed heritage item, and to enable youths to adore cultural heritage. — ASH/TTA
