ACCORDING to travel agencies, this month is the cherry blossom season in Kalaw, helping the town’s tourist arrival mounted.
Cherry blossoms in late December through the whole of January in Kalaw Township so the visitor arrival is high.
“Tourist arrival in Kalaw has visibly risen this month. Hotels were fully booked throughout the last month, December, in Taunggyi and Kalaw. Hotel rooms have already been booked fully for the whole of January too. Cherries blossom in December and January, contributing to the visitor arrival to increase. People also go to visit other small towns where cherry trees are present,” said Ko Sai from Shan Cherry Myay Travel & Tour.
The majority of visitors are from Yangon and Mandalay; however, Yangonites account for 80 per cent of total tourist arrivals.
“Among visitors, Yangon residents accounted for nearly 80 per cent, followed by Mandalay. Kalaw clock tower, Kalaw Heritage Hotel, Kalaw viewpoint, Bawa Thanthaya Bridge, Byike Hill, and Hnee Buddha Image are famous tourist destinations in Kalaw,” he said. — Thit Taw/ZS
