Yenangyaung, 20 January

Several villages in Yenangyaung Township, Magway Region, have primarily focused on tomato cultivation this year, generating significant income from their harvests.

After the receding of the Ayeyarwady River, tomatoes were planted on farmland that was once flooded. Currently, large quantities of tomatoes are being harvested and sold to local market vendors at favorable prices, according to a farmer from Yenangyaung Township.

In addition to tomatoes, farmers also cultivate various vegetables, including cucumbers, eggplants, lettuce, mustard greens, chilies, and onions during the winter season.

In the tomato market, prices were recorded at Ks. 4,000 to 5,000 per viss in December of last year. However, this week, farmers are selling tomatoes at prices ranging from Ks. 3,000 to 4,000 per viss at retail.— Myo Myint Thu
