Kyunhla Township, located in Kanbalu District, Sagaing Region, has cultivated a variety of oilseed crops to ensure local self-sufficiency in edible oil. The township has harvested over 32,000 acres of oilseed crops this winter planting season, according to the Township Agriculture Department.
The township has planted 14,239 acres of peanuts, 14,036 acres of sesame, 1,229 acres of sunflower, 5,317 acres of niger, and 451 acres of mustard seeds as winter oilseed crops.
“This winter planting season, a total of 34,864 acres were earmarked for oilseed crops, and 35,272 acres have been planted, exceeding the target by 400 acres. To date, 32,089 acres of oilseed crops have been harvested, with the remaining crops still being harvested,” said Daw Myint Myint Yi, head of the Township Agriculture Department.
The Township Agriculture Department is providing high-quality seeds, conducting field demonstrations on proper planting methods, offering courses, and providing post-harvest education to ensure that the oilseed fields achieve their target yield.—Myo Win Nyo (Kyunhla)
