SOME 2,500 travellers visit Ngwehsaung and Chaungtha beaches in Ayeyawady Region on a daily basis during the long office holidays, according to the Directorate of Hotels and Tour­ism in Ayeyawady Region.

 

“About 2,500 travellers per day pay visits to prominent beaches in Ayeyawady Region such as Chaungtha and Ngweh­saung on weekends. Some 2,000 travellers visit Ngwehsaung Beach daily whereas about 500 visitors per day tour Chaungtha beach. As now is time of holding the Buddha Pujanuya festival of Mawtinsoon Pagoda, the number of pilgrims to the pagoda is on the rise. Hence, pilgrims take relax­ation at the beach of Hainggyik­yun where Mawtinsoon Pagoda is located. According to the re­cords, more than 50,000 pilgrims paid visit to the pagoda up to the Taboung full moon day,” said U Aung Thu Oo, the Director of the Ayeyawady Region Directorate of Hotels and Tourism.

 

In 2024, the statistics report­ed that some 440,000 travellers at home and abroad visited Chaungtha beach while some 600,000 visitors took relaxation at Ngwehsaung beach.

 

Currently, a total of 26 ho­tels, motels and lodges are op­erational at Chaungtha beach to give service to travellers. At the same time, a total of 32 ho­tels, motels and lodges are being operated at Ngwehsaung beach. — ASH/TTA
