CHAUK and Magway townships in Magway Region have been added to the list of the hottest cities in the world, according to the El Dorado Weather, a climate observatory website.
On the morning of 17 March, the El Dorado Weather website, which publishes real-time global temperature and precipitation data, reported that Chauk reached 44.3 degrees Celsius (111.2 degrees Fahrenheit), making it the second hottest city globally, while Magway recorded a maximum temperature of 43.2 degrees Celsius (109.76 degrees Fahrenheit), ranking it 13th on the list of the hottest cities in the world.
The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology’s mid-March forecast (for the second 10 days of March) indicates that at least eight regions and states, including Magway Region, could experience temperatures 1.5 degrees Celsius (34.7 degrees Fahrenheit) above the March average.
Chauk Township in Magway Region holds the record for the hottest city in Myanmar, with temperatures reaching 48.2 degrees Celsius in April of last year. – ASH/TH
