Nay Pyi Taw, 19 March

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation's Forest Department is actively combating illegal logging through a range of initiatives, including the Community Monitoring and Reporting System (CMRS), which encourages public participation in the detection and seizure of illegal timber and forest products.

Between 10 and 16 March this year, the Nay Pyi Taw, State, and Region Forest Departments reported confiscating a total of 125.91 tons of illegal timber across the Nay Pyi Taw Council area, States, and Regions. This seizure included 39.99 tons of illegal teak, 33.56 tons of hardwood, and 52.39 tons of other timber varieties.

Additionally, 16 vehicles and machinery used in the illegal timber trade were seized, and 32 individuals were arrested in connection with the case.—MNA
