The Department of Research and Innovation under the Ministry of Science and Technology stated that the ministry will implement two projects with the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Special Fund (2024).
In this regard, the fund will be allocated for the project to build a research centre on innovative bamboo products and another project to enhance innovations with participation of ICT to contribute to digital economy.
If bamboo industries boom in Myanmar, it will be an important opportunity for rural development. Likewise, if the country implements the projects on ICT collaborated innovations, Myanmar will have the chance to keep abreast of other countries in advancement of technologies worldwide and will have necessary skills in the digital age.
The Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Special Fund (2024) will benefit implementation of the plan to establish Cloud Computing, Cybersecurity Training, Data Analytics, NationalTechTransfer and Database contributing to the digital economy of the State.
Furthermore, upon completion of establishing a research centre for innovation of bamboo products, export products of construction, furniture and handiworks industries using bamboo sources can be bolstered, creating jobs for people from rural regions.
Currently, there are nine companies manufacturing rattan and bamboo works across Myanmar, exporting 80 per cent of projects while distributing these products for 20 per cent at home markets. — ASH/TTA
