State Administration Council Chairman Prime Minister Sen­ior General Min Aung Hlaing who was in Thailand to attend the Sixth BIMSTEC Summit held a meeting with Prime Minister of India Mr Shri Narendra Modi at Shangri-La Hotel in Bangkok yesterday morning.

 

At the meeting, the Indian Prime Minister said that he, along with the people of India, is deeply saddened by the loss­es and damage caused by the severe earthquake in Myanmar. India too has experienced the impact of such a devastating earthquake in the State of Gu­jarat in the past. India will con­tinue to provide the necessary assistance to Myanmar. At this BIMSTEC Summit, he will also be discussing matters related to natural disasters in depth. He is also pleased to have the opportunity to meet with Your Excellency once again.

 

In his response, the Senior General said that he expressed his deep gratitude to Your Excel­lency and the people of India for the assistance extended in re­sponse to the severe earthquake that recently struck his coun­try, causing significant damage and losses. He would also like to seek experiences from India re­lated to the destruction caused by the earthquake and the ef­forts towards reconstruction. Furthermore, he is pleased to learn that Your Excellency will be broadly discussing matters related to natural disasters at the BIMSTEC Summit.

 

They frankly exchanged views on the promotion of friendly relations and coopera­tion between the two countries, emphasis placed on peace and stability as well as the pros­perity of Myanmar and sover­eignty of Myanmar, potential for cooperation in peace and stability of border region, and eradication of trafficking in person and armed struggling, ongoing process of Myanmar on the path of multiparty de­mocracy, and preparations to hold a free and fair multiparty democracy general election in coming December.

 

The meeting was also at­tended by SAC Joint Secretary General Ye Win Oo, Union Min­isters U Than Swe and Admiral Moe Aung, and senior officers. The Indian Prime Minister was accompanied by officials of the Indian Government.
