STATE Administration Council Chairman Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing who was in Thailand to attend the 6th BIMSTEC Summit met Prime Minister of Thailand Ms Paetongtarm Shinawatra at Shangri-La Hotel in Bangkok yesterday morning.
At the meeting, the BIMSTEC Rotating Chair Prime Minister of Thailand said that due to the severe earthquake that struck Myanmar, she and her people are deeply saddened by the damage and losses suffered. Thailand will continue to assist in rehabilitation efforts and the provision of medical aid. To better understand the needs on the ground, the Foreign Minister of her country, together with the Foreign Minister of Malaysia, will be visiting Myanmar shortly. Her country remains committed to continuing its support and assistance to Myanmar as needed.
The Senior General said that he is pleased with Thailand and expresses deep gratitude and appreciation to Her Excellency and the people of Thailand who have extended their condolences and provided necessary assistance regarding the damage caused by the recent severe earthquake in the country. It has been confirmed that Bangkok, Thailand, was also affected by the disaster. He is saddened to learn that Myanmar nationals were among those injured in the incident. He also welcomes and is thankful for the intention of the Foreign Ministers of Thailand and Malaysia to visit and assess the necessary support that can be provided.
Afterwards, they cordially exchanged views on the promotion of cooperation between Myanmar and Thailand, the potential for cooperation in ensuring peace and stability in the border region, eradicating illegal trade, narcotic drugs and arms smuggling, cooperation in combatting activities of telecom fraud and online gambling, raising public awareness to minimize transboundary haze pollution and dissemination of agricultural techniques, and further promotion of cooperation in economic, agriculture and livestock, defence and other sectors.
The meeting was also attended by SAC Joint Secretary General Ye Win Oo, Union Ministers U Than Swe and Admiral Moe Aung, and senior officers. The BIMSTEC Rotating Chair Thai Prime Minister was accompanied by officials of the Thai government.
After the meeting, they exchanged commemorative gifts. — MNA/TTA
