CHAIRMAN of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing who attended the Sixth BIMSTEC Summit hosted by Thailand held talks with Sri Lankan Prime Minister Dr Harini Amarasuriya at Shangri-La Hotel in Bangkok yesterday afternoon.
At the talks, the Sri Lankan Prime Minister conveyed the message of the President of Sri Lanka, saying that the President expressed his deep sorrow over the significant damage and losses caused by the recent powerful earthquake in Myanmar. On behalf of Sri Lanka, the Sri Lankan Prime Minister said Sri Lanka is extending its support in various ways to assist Myanmar in its rescue and recovery efforts.
The Senior General said that the two countries have a strong and friendly relationship with good cooperation. He is grateful for the assistance Sri Lanka provided during this time, when a severe earthquake caused damage in Myanmar, particularly for the support extended in the rescue and relief operations.
They cordially discussed the promotion of cooperation in economic, defence, education and science and technology sectors, and efforts to enhance friendship between the two countries.
Also, present at the meeting were Council Joint Secretary General Ye Win Oo, Union Ministers U Than Swe and Admiral Moe Aung and senior officials. The Sri Lankan Prime Minister was accompanied by officials from the Sri Lankan government.
After the talks, the Senior General and the Sri Lankan Prime Minister exchanged commemorative gifts. — MNA/TTA
