THE Mekong Tourism Forum 2026 was inaugurated yesterday morning at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Yangon, with Union Minister for Hotels, Tourism and Culture U Maung Myint in attendance.
In his opening remarks, the Union Minister said that the forum serves not only as a platform for policy discussions but also as a valuable network for sharing practical field experience, market strategies, and ideas on sustainable tourism development, with a particular focus on how tourism can benefit local communities.
He also noted that the inclusion of the Greater Mekong Subregion food exhibition would help showcase the cultural heritage, traditions, and historical backgrounds of participating countries through culinary culture, while further strengthening cross-border cultural exchange.
Remarks were also delivered by Cambodia’s Minister of Tourism and the Executive Director of the Mekong Tourism Coordinating Office.
During the discussions, representatives from Greater Mekong Subregion member countries, local and international experts, hotel and tourism associations, and students from the National Management Degree College (Yangon) exchanged views on tourism development and regional cooperation. — MNA/KZL
