MPT planted more than 3,770 saplings across regions and states on 20 June under its nationwide “Moving Forward for Greener Future” programme aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and mitigating the effects of climate change.

The simultaneous tree-planting campaign was carried out in all regions and states, including Yadanabon new satellite town in PyinOoLwin Township, Mandalay Region. The initiative seeks to create a greener environment, improve quality of life and reduce the impact of natural disasters and climate change through lower greenhouse gas emissions.

According to Mr Hiroyuki Okai, Adviser to the Operations Department of MPT Joint Operations, the programme has been held annually since 2017 and marked its eighth edition this year. Including this year’s rainy season campaign, MPT has planted more than 23,000 trees nationwide.

More than 800 MPT employees and volunteers took part in the activity, planting hardwood and shade tree species. The programme aims to provide shade for local communities, improve air quality and contribute to long-term environmental conservation. — Oktha/ KZL
