In honor of Nobel Laureate State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, “Aung San Suu Kyi Park” was established in Norway, Froland City. The park was opened in 2016 by former Norwegian Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik.
The initial idea was for Nobel Laureate State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi to plant a special tree from Myanmar in the peace park as a symbol of human unity. Some locals proposed this idea to the Froland City mayor. In April 2016, the municipal board allocated a site in Froland Verk Grand Garden to construct Aung San Suu Kyi Peace Park.
Local people volunteered labour for Aung San Suu Kyi Park also called Peace Park that was officially opened on 19 June 2016. A bronze bust of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi sculpted by a famous Norwegian sculptor was put up in the park and a special statue of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi made by a Myanmar handcrafter U Nge Zaw was also unveiled on the opening day of the park. — MNA(Translated by Zaw Min)
